1. May improve sleep quality

Chamomile has unique properties that can benefit the quality of your sleep.

It contains apigenin, an antioxidant that binds to certain receptors in the human brain that cause drowsiness. Thus, apigenin can reduce the manifestations of insomnia or chronic lack of sleep ( 1 ).

In one study, women who recently gave birth to a baby drank chamomile tea for two weeks. It was found that their sleep was calmer and longer compared to a group of women who did not drink chamomile tea. They also had fewer symptoms of depression, which is often caused by lack of sleep after childbirth ( 2 ).

Another study showed that people who consumed 270 mg of chamomile extract twice a day for 28 days woke up 3 times less at night and fell asleep 15 minutes faster than those who did not consume the extract ( 3 ).

These results are promising, but more research is needed to determine the effect of chamomile tea on sleep. However, drinking chamomile tea before bedtime is certainly helpful if you have trouble falling asleep.

Nevertheless, we note that today there are many cases in medical practice when chamomile tea soothes pain in the stomach. Traditionally, chamomile tea is prescribed by doctors to treat several digestive ailments, including nausea and high gas production.

4. Chamomile tea is good for controlling blood sugar.

Most evidence of the role of chamomile tea in controlling blood sugar is based on animal studies. Nevertheless, the results obtained are impressive ( 13 ).

One study of 64 patients with diabetes showed that those who drank tea from chamomile while eating had noticeable improvements in their total cholesterol, triglycerides, and “bad” cholesterol levels of low-density lipo proteins compared to those who drank water ( 15 ) .

More research is needed to confirm the beneficial properties of chamomile tea in maintaining heart health. But, of course, this does not hurt to include this healing drink in your diet.

Moisturizing the skin: it is believed that the use of chamomile for the skin with the help of cosmetic products, such as lotions, eye creams and soaps, can have a moisturizing effect and reduce inflammation on the skin ( 17 ).
Bone loss prevention: Some argue that chamomile tea can play a role in preventing bone loss, leading to conditions such as osteoporosis. However, evidence is insufficient.

Despite the fact that these beneficial properties of chamomile tea do not have scientific evidence, this does not mean that they are false. They simply have not been studied enough yet, which could happen in the near future.
